The song was written by the dream team of #QuincyJones and #RodTemperton. It was offered to Karen Carpenter first, but she was all like, nah. Karens, am I right!? Michael's cut was released in November of 1979.

It was a number one hit on pop & R&B charts and ended up being the 4th biggest single of 1980.

The iconic music video features Michael in a sparkly sequined suit singing the song with a bright green laser behind him in a blacked out room, so simple, but such a vibe.

Timeless classic.

For his 2nd attempt at solo stardom after leaving #NewEdition, #Bobby decided to go with young upstart producers #LAReid & Kenny #Babyface Edmonds. The lead off track from the album of the same name would go on to be one of Bobby's biggest hits. It soared to the top of the #RandB charts, and became a pop crossover hitting #8 on the US #Billboard Hot 100.

This song is 31 years old today, but still bumps. Personally, it was repeated viewing of this video on my old VHS machine that taught me my first dance steps. Discovering my ability to dance literally changed my life, and I haven't stopped moving since.

The @sexyblackradio #SOTD features a 13 year old @tevincampbell belting out standout single from #QuincyJones' smash, superstar-filled 1989 album, #BackOnTheBlock.

The album featured vocals from several huge Jazz, R&B and Hip-Hop artists of the time like Ella Fitzgerald, Big Daddy Kane, Dizzy Gillespie, Luther Vandross, Barry White, @take6official, Al Jarreau, James Ingram, Ray Charles and MANY others. But the album served one other major purpose... it introduced the world to Quincy's protege, #TevinCampbell.

The song "Tomorrow" featured him, alone, on vocals. Every other track on the album, except Take6's Septembro (another classic) had multiple artists on it.

Quincy knew Tevin, then 12, could carry the song which he originally wrote as an instrumental for the Brothers Johnson. A newcomer and soon to be star herself, @siedahgarrett penned the amazing lyrics and directed the children's choir featured on the song. The song was arranged by Rod Temperton, known mostly for his work with Quincy and #MichaelJackson on OffTheWall & Thriller.

Not only was it Tevin's first single, it was his first #1 R&B record and first song to enter the Billboard Hot 100 charts. It wouldn't be his last.

in this iteration of the group, Melvin Edmonds was replaced by his son, Jason due to poor health. Sadly, Melvin passed on May 18th, 2019.

His legacy with the group is eternal. The standout vocalist of the group, #KevonEdmonds still has his signature silky, smooth tone, that goes straight to the heart.

The studio version featured the impeccable vocals of Eric Williams, Mark Middleton and Chauncey Hannibal along with Teddy. In the video above, original Blackstreet member, @davehollister fits in perfectly, but by the time Another Level was recorded, he had already parted ways with the group. Teddy has been doing shows with other singers and Dave and other past members occasionally join him.

What sets this song apart is the all-encompassing harmonies that are pitch-perfect thanks to Teddy Riley's trademark talkbox elements that he uses to lend an electric element to an already immaculate chord progression.

#SexyblackSOTD is the #Jackson5's timeless #classic, #WhosLovinYou.

The Jackson 5 were a key component to the #Motown sound of the 60s. The glorious sound coming out of that studio pushed #blackmusic to the forefront of the genre that would become pop. It, being #blackowned, distributed and marketed, would change music forever by keeping black music in possession of those who created, thus stopping white owned labels and white artists from usurping it, leaving black artists with no fame, credit, and minimal-to-no pay for their work.

This gem was written by Smokey Robinson and although it was originally recorded by The Miracles in 1960 and covered by many artists since then (#TheSupremes, #TerenceTrentDarby, #EnVogue, #MichaelBuble and others), the most popular version remains the Jackson 5's 1969 recording.

The song wasn't even a single, it was a B-side for their first #1 hit, #IWantYouBack.

The video featured is their 1st appearance on the #EdSullivanShow.

#Sexyblacksotd is @pebbles2day and @babyface's incomparable #duet, #LoveMakesThingsHappen from her sophomore release called #Always. This album is one of my favourite #LaFace productions.

This song was released in 1990 and was a standout in the decade that LA Reid and Babyface could produce no wrong. It's about how even though you may be a good person with good intentions in a relationship, you may find yourself having feelings or thoughts about someone else. It is a beautifully written song that can polarize listeners because of its #honesty about affairs of the heart. No matter how people feel about it, one cannot deny the smoothness of the production and how well Face and Pebbles sound together.

The song spent two weeks at the top of the #Billboard Hot R&B/Hip Hop charts and peaked at #13 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Fun "Scandalous" Fact: When Face and Pebbles recorded this song together about #love breaking up #relationships, Pebbles was married to #LAReid, Babyface's good friend and business partner. But they were never romantically involved.
